Passion Sour (Varionica Brewery)

Cześć! Hello! Today we’re checking out the Passion Sour from Varionica Brewery in Poland.

This brew comes in a 330ml bottle, clocks in at 4.5% ABV and is classed as a gose beer.

What’s a Gose beer?

‘Gose is a warm fermented beer that originated in Goslar, Germany. It is usually brewed with at least 50% of the grain bill being malted wheat. Dominant flavours in gose include a lemon sourness, a herbal characteristic, and a strong saltiness.’

So… Beer? Let’s get right to it!

I pop the lid off the bottle and pour it into the tasting glass to reveal a hazy dank yellow colour with a little white head that quickly disappears.

On the nose you’re quickly slapped with the passionfruit aroma, along with those wheat notes and a hint of spice coming through.

The taste brings that big touted passion hit which sits well with flavours of lemongrass, tart, mango, citrus and a bit of bready biscuit.

There’s a soft carbonation with a light body to this and it’s quite a juicy number so it really quenches the thirst well. I’d imagine it’ll be a great hot day beer!

If you’re looking a solid sipper of a sour, you couldn’t go wrong with this. It’s not a challenging sour as some can be and it’d be a great entry into the exciting world of sours for anyone looking to break in.

I’d give this 3.4 sourbois out of 5

G’luck,
Seán
