IKAT DDH DIPA (Salt Beer Factory)

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another midweek beer review!

Today, we’ve got the IKAT DDH DIPA by Salt Beer Factory. This brew comes in the form of a 440ml can and has an 8% ABV and an IBU of 70.

Which, when you break down all the abbreviations in there DDH = Double Dry Hopped and DIPA = Double IPA and for the IKAT part? We’ll let Salt Beer Factory explain that as seen below:

IKAT = [EE-KAHT] noun
1. An Indonesian method of tie-dyeing warp and weft yarns, before weaving.
2. A smooth DDH DIPA with intense tropical fruit and citrus hop aromas.

Sounds great eh? Now that we’ve got the setup out of the way, let’s check it out!

The can is cracked and poured into my ever faithful tasting glass which at this stage deserves a service medal. I notice the hazy, dank yellow colour of the beer with a frothy white head that’s fairly standard of this style of beer.

On the nose, it’s really tropical in smell with citrus, floral and clean fruity notes shining through. Fruity smells here are mango and papaya.

The taste is light in carbonation and there’s an explosion of tropical fruits as you drink. I immediately notice that it doesn’t feel like an 8% and expected it to taste strong but instead, it’s smooth and really easy to drink which might mean an early night if you drink these too fast!

There’s a pleasant sweetness to this with a bitter aftertaste that lingers, keeps your mouth watering and excited for the next sip. There’s a taste of orange, citrus, mango and a bit of passionfruit in there too.

Overall, I enjoyed this beer and would happily have it again. Hopefully I’ll be able to find this on draught somewhere as a pint of this would be amazing.
