Dry Humor Brut IPA (Yankee and Kraut Brewery)

This brew is Dry Humor Brut IPA from Yankee and Kraut Brewery. It clocks in at 6.8% ABV and has an IBU of 23. For those not in the know, Brut IPAs are named as such due to their dryness as a reference to brut champagne.

The brew pours a pale gold and is quite hazy with a white head which doesn’t really have the appearance of champagne. On the nose, there’s a lemon and lime aroma with the hoppy notes shining through.

On the tongue, it has the classic dry champagne quality so it certainly lives up to the brut name in that regard. There’s a chalky dryness to it really and there’s an acidy carbonation to it as well, again, similar to a champagne.

However, unlike champagne, I’ve actually enjoyed this as there’s a lovely grassy, citrusy flavour to it and there the dry-hopped quality with light carbonation is actually pretty pleasant. To sum up, this is grand, it’s not all singing and dancing but it does the job. It dares to be a little bit different and experimental with the brut champagne style.

I’d give this 3.7 champers out of 5

G’luck,
Seán
