The Great Return IPA (Hardywood Park Craft Brewery)

The brew today comes in the form of the Great Return IPA from Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and as you can see, the bottle looks like an old medicine bottle with a classic looking sticker design on it. I’m a sucker for great bottle design so this has me already!

This IPA clocks in at 7.5% ABV and quite a high 70 IBUs. I crack the lid and notice the hoppy aroma straight away as I pour it into my tasting glass. There’s a malty, sweet and piney smell there as well, with some floral notes coming through.

To taste, it’s quite citrusy, crisp and really smooth. There’s a hint of grapefruit in there and there’s a lovely light carbonation which quenches any thirst you might have. For a brew that’s 7.5% ABV, it definitely doesn’t taste that strong, it actually drinks smoothly and goes down dangerously easy. It’s that tasty that you have to remind yourself to take it easy!

The bitterness is high on this, being at 70 IBUs, it really makes itself known as a bitter lad. It’s pleasant in that regard though and it doesn’t bring the beer down any.

All in all, I’ve enjoyed this tipple but I couldn’t see myself having more than one of these in an evening as it’d be an early taxi home after a few no doubt. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

I’d give this 4 bitterbois out of 5

G’luck,
Seán
