Norfolk Canyon Pale Ale (O’Connor Brewing Co.)

Today’s featured beer is this shhhhtateside guy from O’Connor brewing co, based in Norfolk, Virginia. It’s the Norfolk Canyon Pale Ale (330ml bottle) which clocks in at 5.5% ABV and has an IBU of 40.

I crack the bottle cap, pour it in to my little tasting glass and notice that it’s a slightly hazy pale yellow colour with a constant stream of bubbles rising to the top. There’s a sizeable head when poured that quickly dissipates when the liquid settles in the glass.

On the nose, there’s a slight citrus hint to it and it smells very hoppy. It’s a treat beer as I’ve been heavy productive today so this is well earned – let’s dig in!

In the mouth, it’s really pleasant right off the bat and has a light carbonation to it. You’re hit with a biscuity malty quality and a sweetness at the same time before it gives way to a bitter finish. It’s wholly refreshing and I wish I had more than one of these. The taste is citrus, malt and refreshing floral notes on the tongue.

To sum up, I’ve enjoyed this and I’d love to try it on draft some day. I’ve had this cooling in the fridge for a few days before tasting so I had it super fresh and chilled when tasting which brought the experience up a notch.

I’d give this 3.8 fishybois out of 5

G’luck,
Seán
